It was an unusual call to a farm in Chatsworth Township, as Grey County OPP recovered an unarmed military shell.
The call came in on Wednesday, when a man spreading topsoil with a tractor discovered a the military ordnance.
The shell measured approximately six inches in diameter by 18 inches long.
An OPP Explosives Disposal Unit called in their military counterparts from Base Borden and they removed the unarmed shell without incident.
Grey County OPP Media Relations Officer Steve Starr says the exact origin of the shell isn’t known but it was contained within topsoil that the finder moved from another property in the city of Owen Sound in August 2009.
It is believed that it is an antique naval shell that could date back to the second world war.
Starr says perhaps it was a souvenir that a retiring military person brought back and then later buried it in Owen Sound.
