It appears Canada Post is turning a deaf ear, to the concerns of Hanover residents about moving the post office.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News reported earlier this month, there were some 900 objections filed against the proposal to relocate the post office one kilometre from the downtown.
One of those objecting was Hanover Chamber President Michele Hettrick — who feels to move the Post Office would be bad for business.
In a letter to opponents, Canada Post General Manager David Roy says “after careful consideration and review of the customer feedback, they have decided to relocate the post office in Hanover.”
Starting on December 13th, 2010 — all postal services will be relocated to 224 7th Avenue within the Hanover Mall / Food Basics Plaza.
This is roughly 1.4 kilometres, or about a three-minute drive, from the existing location.
Roy adds, “Canada Post is relocating this post office because the existing site no longer meets our needs.”
He also says in the letter that the Corporation could not find a suitable location downtown.
The new Post Office will continue to be open Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
All products and services offered at the current location will continue to be available at the new location.
