Yet another opponent against the shipment of 16 steam generators along the great lakes from Owen Sound to Sweden.
The Council of Canadians says the plan to ship radioactive generators from Bruce Power puts the great lakes at risk, and is urging the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to stop the shipment.
In a letter, the group also says that the total radioactive level exceeds the limits set out in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material by as high as 50 times.
The council also says that allowing the shipment to go forward sets a dangerous precedent that could encourage the shipment of radioactive waste, which does not meet national and international regulations, through the Great Lakes on a regular basis.
