The ground was broken Monday on the new Owen Sound Medical Building.
The 20 million dollar project should be complete by this time next year as the new medical building will house the Owen Sound Family Health Team.
Leading Physician, Doctor Cam Tweedie, says the idea of a combined location began back in late 2006.
Doctor Tweedie says the building will house 18 family physician practices that were designed specifically for their team.
Carolyn Grace of the Family Health Team Committee says the hub will open up more time for family physicians to see people for acute care.
42 thousand square feet of the 80 thousand square foot building is designated for the Family Health Team.
Amico Properties owns the building and Vice President Cindy Prince says the remaining 38 thousand square feet is available for lease.
Ideally Prince says she would like to see it leased to other medical related parties in the community.
The new building is located along three acres of waterfront along 1st Avenue West in Owen Sound.
Right now construction crews are taking care of some environmental contamination problems.
Prince says they expect foundation work to begin soon and the building to be open by this time next year.
