A new apartment building will be built on the same site as one that was destroyed by fire last Easter weekend in Owen Sound.
Contractor Barry Krusselbrink says his plan is for a two storey, 11 unit building to go on the same “footprint” as the old building at 464 11th Street A West.
That building was destroyed in a blaze that left 10 families homeless.
Careless smoking is believed to have caused the fire.
Barry Krusselbrink says the new construction will cost 600 to 700 thousand dollars.
He says each unit will have a separate entrance and there will be no comon corridor.
Because the apartment building will be no larger than the old one, there is no need for a minor variance and he doesn’t expect a problem getting all the necessary approvals at city hall.
Krusselbrink says if they can break ground next month he expects people will be able to move into the building next June.
