It’s all about culture and Owen Sound at the Roxy tonight.
Tonight is the second annual Owen Sound Cultural Awards featuring the best of the best of all things culture in the city.
Event Facilitator Doug Cleverley says this years nominees are all deserving and are stacked quite high in several categories.
Cleverley says the music category has eight nominees from groups to individuals — including Richard Knechtel, the Artistic Director of Summerfolk who is also a musician.
The other category that has alot of nominees is emerging artist with nine.
Cleverley says the lifetime achievement award focuses on people that have not just lived in the community their entire lives but have brought culture not only to the city but to all of Grey and Bruce.
Some of the other categories featured in the awards are theatre, dance and cultural heritage.
The awards ceremony itself features Dancemakers, the Youth Theatre Coalition the music award winner from 2009, Larry Jensen and a house band.
Masters of Ceremonies is Rob McLean.
Cleverley says he can see the awards getting better every year and the response this year was great — although he hopes in years to come he sees some more nominees in some of the areas.
The event runs at the Roxy Theatre with doors opening at 6:30 PM and the curtain is 7:30 PM.
