A first step for a Facade Improvement Guideline for downtown Port Elgin is in the books.
Only 25 people showed up Wednesday night at the Plex for a workshop on facades put on by Stempski Kelly Associates of Elora.
But those 25 people took part in what could be the look of our downtown core in the future filling out a survey on the facades they liked best during a slide presentation.
Presenter Sean Kelly says the first thing he had to do was put people at ease.
Kelly says facades are nothing to be afraid of.
We all experience them everyday and they send a message to the pedestrian going by and the potential shopper.
Kelly says for a little investment you can go a long way in rejuvenating your facade.
He says a significant improvement to a facade can be made for as little as 24 hundred dollars and with grants or municipal loans, that cost may be even less.
Among those attending was Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith who said he was pleasantly surprised to learn that you don’t need to spend a fortune to make a storefront attractive.
Stempski Kelly will compile the results of last night’s survey and expects to report back in December.
