There’s a public outcry in Hanover over a proposal by Canada Post to relocate the Post Office 1 kilometre from the downtown.
To date — over 900 objections have been filed against the proposed relocation.
These objections have come in the forms of letters and petitions from business owners and residents alike.
Hanover Chamber of Commerce President Michele Hettrick says the Post Office plays a vital role in keeping the downtown vibrant.
She says the post office not only creates heavy foot traffic in the downtown, but it’s also conveniently located for businesses and residents.
Hettrick feels to move the Post Office out of the downtown would be very bad for business.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell agrees and has request the help of Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller in the matter.
Hanover’s Post Office is currently located at 501 9th Avenue just a block north of main street on a one way street.
Canada Post is proposing to relocate the post office within 1 kilometre — and is asking for public feedback now.
