Another construction contract has been awarded to continue the Southampton north end sewer project.
Saugeen Shores council approved SMRS Construction be awarded the work for just over 826 thousand dollars.
Director of Engineering Services Dave Burnside says this is the 5th such contractor that will be working on site and the last one to be issued in the project.
Workers will complete the reconstruction of North Rankin from South Ranking Street to Division Street.
Burnside says it will include storm sewers, bike lanes, curb and gutter and the extension of sidewalks on both sides of Highway 21 to Division Street.
Burnside says overall the North End project is about 80 per cent complete and within the approved budget.
Meanwhile, Burnside reports that on South Rankin Street, the area that had been closed to traffic since Easter Weekend, is now open.
He says they will be meeting with First Nation’s representatives in the next 10 days or so to see how they will proceed in the area.
Last Spring native artifacts from a burial ground were discovered as the sewer project began.
The area, on South Ranking near the water, became off-limits until just recently.
The road is open but not paved.
