The Southwest Local Health Integration Network has announced 3.6 million dollars in funding for local priories.
CEO Michael Barrett says the funding is one-time-only and is being used to launch several new initiatives in a timely fashion.
One of those initiatives is the Resource Matching and Referral program which will have just over 180 thousand dollars earmarked for it.
Barrett says the program is designed to make finding appropriate services for newly discharged patients more efficient for the hospital discharge planner.
The E-Shift delivery service model is receiving the bulk of the funding at 1.18 million dollars.
E-Shift is designed as a communication system between the personal care worker and a registered nurse – rather than have a nurse stationed at every long term care room.
Also high on the list is the Cancer Surgery Improvement Project – it is receiving 834 thousand dollars.
In total there are 12 initiatives being funded by this most recent cash injection – most are new some are ongoing.
