Brockton is mapping out all of its infrastructure assets. From stop signs, fire hydrants and traffic lights to bridges, storm sewers and catch basins.
While the work may not be exciting, Utility Manager Collin Saunders say it is necessary in order to comply with new Ministry regulations.
He adds the information gained will also provide Brockton with an advantage when it comes to development plans as well as forecasting future infrastructure needs.
Saunders says this will be particularly helpful during budget time.
The municipality hired two students to take on the tedious work.
They spent the summer cataloguing the municipalities assets into a GIS or Geographic Information System.
Some interesting findings so far include the fact that a small town the size of Walkerton has 331 stop signs and 609 street lights.
The project will take a few years to complete the first phase is wrapping up now.
