Just a handful of people showed up for the latest all-candidates meeting in Saugeen Shores.
The meeting was held Saturday at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton, and hosted by the Southampton Residents Association.
Everything from disability transportation to beachfront maintenance to taxes was on the menu.
Southampton ward candidate Sunny Cushnie says something has to be done about what he calls “runaway taxes.”
Cushnie suggests council really hasn’t taken a close look at how to reduce taxes and yet keep the amenities in the community.
Southampton ward candidates Diane Huber says encouraging more commerical and industrial development would be great because it would improve the tax situation.
But she urges the electorate to support the businesses we have now before we expand.
The third candidate in Southampton, Thead Seamen, did not attend the meeting.
All candidates for the Saugeen Township ward made pitches.
Taun Frosst says he wants to see waterfront development with a master plan that already exists.
He says it would just need a bit a tweaking.
Gary Brown says no matter what the issue, common sense is what is needed because no one person makes the final decision.
He says the decision is made by council as a whole.
Candidate Cindy Cartwright says she would be thinking outside the box if elected, when it comes to disability transportation.
She says she believes there is a partnership that could be forged between the town and the board of education to use their handicap accessible buses when they’re not being used to transport students.
Candidates for mayor and for deputy mayor also attended the meeting on Saturday.
