Huron County Council is supporting Bruce Power in their efforts to ship decommissioned steam generators through the Great Lakes.
Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt says the head of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Initiative was irresponsible when a statement was released that said all Mayors involved didn’t support the project.
He feels people are making statements about it without proper research and should recognize that the Bruce has always been open and transparent about any issues they have.
Shewfelt says dealing with the generators in Ontario would require deep deposits in the land and shipping it to Sweden to have a qualified company involved is environmentally responsible.
He says the Initiative never took the time to check with the mayors in this area and the Board of Directors decision to come out against the shipping plan was never presented to the group.
Shewfelt says the Warden of Bruce County made that clear in Ottawa during the two-day hearing last week.
