It’s already the largest employer in the region — but Bruce Power is poised to keep growing.
Ross Lamont, the nuclear operator’s manager of community and government relations, told Grey County Council on Tuesday that it plans to continue to hire new 200 to 250 new staff members each year for the foreseeable future.
It already has a workforce of almost 38 hundred employees.
Lamont says that while the number of outside contractors on site is declining as the restart of Bruce A Units 1 and 2 nears completion, preparation has begun for future possible refurbishments.
And Lamont says retiring staff members always need to be replaced.
Lamont, who was updating council on the corporation’s activities in general, also spoke of Bruce Power’s sponsorship efforts.
The company’s annual sponsorship budget is $1.36 million, much of which is devoted to local initiatives such as youth development, health and wellness, and community and culture.
The company’s employees are encouraged to donate to the United Way and have done so this year to the tune of $150,000, a figure over and above what the corporation contributes to the charity.
It’s also involved with the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.
Lamont says such community involvement is designed to help make the region a place where skilled workers want to live and raise their families.
