If you think your child does a lot of school fundraising — you’re right.
Over this past school year — students with the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board raised almost 1.7 million dollars. ($1,658,603)
This works out to be 465 dollars per student.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton admits it’s a phenomenal amount of money considering the size of the 13 school board.
Colton says the money is used to fund a large variety of things — from school trips to Christmas concerts, school clubs and student council expenses — to name a few.
Colton notes the money is generated through a variety of ways — from hot dog and pizza sales to calendars to chocolate bars to dances.
Colton says many students and their families have high expectations and as a result schools invest more in field trips and excursions.
Thanks to fundraising efforts, Colton says schools can ensure no student is left behind because of financial difficulties.
Walkerton’s Sacred Heart High School lead the way with 334 thousand dollars raised, followed by St. Mary’s high school in Owen Sound with 235 thousand dollars.
Kincardine’s St. Anthony’s School raised the most at the elementary level with 182 thousand dollars.
