Shelves are getting more bare by the minute at the Salvation Army food banks in Grey and Bruce.
Spokesperson Alice Wannan says the need is great as we edge closer to Thanksgiving.
Wannan says the food banks are running low on some key items like pasta sauce, canned meat and peanut butter.
Wannan notes in February, March and April of 2010 — the increase in use of the foodbank in Grey and Bruce rose 15 per cent.
Wannan expects the fall and winter months this year to be much of the same.
You can donate at any local supermarkets at any time as well at all the salvation army locations throughout Grey and Bruce.
With the food drive coming up in our Bayshore Broadcasting parking lot in Owen Sound on October 7th, 8th and 9th.
There will also be bags being dispersed in the Sun Times.
Wannan says as for those having difficulty filling their kitchen cupboards — she says feel no shame in asking for help from the Salvation army.
She adds many families that are coming forward now have at one time donated to Salvation Army themselves — but they have fallen on hard times.
