It was 60-pounds short of the Canadian record set last year in Port Elgin but it was still a pretty big pumpkin.
Jim Bryson of Ormstown, Quebec had his pumpkin weigh in at just over 1618 pounds to take first place.
Bryson gets five thousand dollars for his efforts and just as well because he says he spent four thousand getting to this point.
Meanwhile, another Quebecer Todd Kline of Shawville picked up second spot with a 1490 pound pumpkin.
Chris Lyons of Scarborough came in third with a pumpkin of 1367 pounds.
The best local effort in International competition belongs to Elaine MacKenzie of Tiverton with a 1246 pound pumpkin, which was good for 5th place.
Saugeen Shores councillor Taun Frosst was the best pumpkin seed spitter at a whopping 34 feet.
On Sunday — the weigh-ins happen again, this time for locally and regionally grown gourds.
