For the 19th year, Groundhog Divers of Port Elgin is hosting an underwater Port Elgin Harbour cleanup.
Spokesperson Doug Freiburger says they hope to have about 20 divers scouring the bottom of the harbour for things that have fallen off boats during the course of the summer.
Freiburger, though, is inviting everyone to the harbour at 10 AM on Sunday to assist in hauling the garbage to bins once it’s out of the water.
He says they’ve been doing this cleanup since 1991 and they’ve pulled out bikes and barbecues but the strangest thing was in 1992 when they hauled out a mattress just covered in fishing lures.
The underwater cleanup will take several hours and you’re invited to help out, if not in the water then around it.
