More concerns were brought out at the hearing in Ottawa into a Bruce Power plan to ship decommissioned steam generators to Europe for recycling.
At day 2 Wednesday of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission hearing — the CAO of the Town of Blue Mountains, Paul Graham, questioned the expert reassurances that no accident could happen during the transport.
Graham says the same kind of reassurances have been given by oil companies about off shore drilling, and look what happened in the Gulf of Mexico.
He says if there is a radiation leak into the Owen Sound, within five days it would be in Meaford and another 5 days in Blue Mountains.
Graham says there could be a problem anywhere, during the transport.
The town CAO says the Commission should not trust anyone, who says an accident cannot happen during the transport to Owen Sound or thru the Great Lakes and overseas to Sweden.
Many more opponents of the plan by Bruce Power also appeared during the second day of the hearing in Ottawa.
One opponent wondered how a 100 tonne generator could be recovered from Owen Sound harbour if a freighter sank, or for that matter from the bottom of one of the Great Lakes.
