Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hanover and District released some worrying news today — the storied chapter may not be around for too much longer.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Hanover and Area will have to shut their doors January 31st if the community doesn’t step up and help.
The Chapter announced their facing a 24 thousand dollar deficit and need donations to keep the lights on.
Their goal is to raise 38 thousand dollars — which Executive Director Chantal La Duke says will keep them operational till the end of February.
She notes the money doesn’t keep them operating into next year, rather its just to get them through this year.
President Selwyn Hicks says their 24 thousand dollar deficit is in addition to two previous years of deficits and that’s rapidly depleting their reserves.
Hicks says those reserves will run dry on December 31st.
The financial problems at the Hanover Chapter doesn’t stem from management problems or anything like that says Hicks.
Rather, he says its simply because demand has increased, while donations haven’t.
Hanover Big Brothers Big Sisters served 12 kids in 2000, they now serve 108 kids.
