Bruce Power CEO Duncan Hawthorne remains in the hot seat at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission hearing in Ottawa today.
It is Day 2 of the hearing into Bruce Powers’ plan to ship decommissioned generators overland to Owen Sound, and then loaded onto freighters for shipment over to Sweden.
So far, the only submission in support of the plan came from Bruce County Warden Mike Smith.
Most of the 79 submissions that are being heard over the 2 day hearing are opposed, or have concerns with the proposal.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners made her presentation Tuesday night and is pleased with the outcome.
Lovell Stanners tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that Bruce Power has agreed to pay for any unexpected expenses the city might face with the plan.
City council was concerned about the cost of any extra policing required, and the cost of road repairs that might be necessary following the transport of the 16… 100 tonne generators on area streets.
Mayor Lovell Stanners says Duncan Hawthorne is on record saying his company will pick up any extraordinary costs Owen Sound might face.
The hearing is continuing all day today and will likely run late in the night.
