Durham area raw milk producer Michael Schmidt is the subject of a new Documentary film.
“MILK WAR” is an hour long documentary produced by I-Channel.
Writer and director of the film, Kevin O’Keefe says it is not a promotional video for Michael Schmidt and he tried to present a balanced movie on the issue of raw milk vs pasteurized milk.
O’Keefe says Schmidt was very co-operative and allowed the film crew extensive access to his “Cow-Share” operation.
Back in November of 2006 — 20 armed officers raided his farm, taking his equipment and sending the issue to court.
The documentary focuses on the battle between Michael Schmidt and the 12 billion dollar a year dairy industry which claims his milk is not safe for the general public.
Kevin O’Keefe says Canada is the only country in the G-8 that bans the sale of raw milk.
In fact he says in California you can walk into a corner store and buy it.
The narrator of the documentary is Gemini award winning actor Colm Feore.
When asked whether Schmidt could end up on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film festival next year, O’Keefe responded “I don’t see why not”, and says I-Channel will be submitting it to several film festivals.
“MILK WAR” will air on I-Channel September 26th at both 8 PM and 11 PM.
