Grade three and grade four mathematics in the Bluewater District system is doing alright but by time they get to Grade six, there is a drop.
Superintendent of elementary education Marnie Coke presented this to the regular board meeting recently based on results from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).
Coke says grade six mathematics was the only area that went down while grade six writing was the same as last year.
Otherwise marks are going up.
In primary mathematics almost 75 per cent of students are achieving levels three and four which is the goal of the Ministry of Education.
Coke says the results show that something happens between Grades 3 and 6 when it comes to mathematics.
It will be up to the board to see what other programs need to be established to improve the junior grades.
