Enrolment figures are looking encouraging for the elementary system of the Bluewater District School Board.
Superintendent of Elementary Education Marnie Coke says last year enrolment was down 2.7 per cent.
She told board members last night this year it’s down only point two per cent.
Coke says that’s telling them the enrolment in elementary schools is evening off and hopefully will be on the increase in a few years.
Coke says they have 26 students less this year than last, with just over 10,817 attending Bluewater District schools.
She says there have been years where the decline has been over 4 per cent.
Coke says some of the increase this year is attributable to full day kindergarten for junior students.
Staff has increased as well because of the change in kindergarten and preparation time allowed teachers this year.
She says there is no appreciable effect on operating budget.
High school enrolment numbers are not available yet.
