Farm Credit Canada’s annual food drive is underway at various locations right across the country.
FCC District Director Ross Carson says here in Grey Bruce donations of non perishable food items can be dropped off at the FCC office in Owen Sound.
He says the actual food drive when tractors and wagons hit the road to collect food will take place October 14th in the Walkerton and Listowel areas.
Carson says one of the reasons this annual event is so successful is because it involves local residents collecting food for local food banks.
He says FCC has partnered with its customers, schools local businesses and rural residents to support area food banks.
This is the seventh year for the Drive away Hunger campaign and Carson says it was started by an FCC worker In Listowel who spent 8 days on the road driving to the International Plowing Match in Meaford, collecting food for local food banks.
He says nationally the goal of the campaign is to collect one million pounds of food.
Since the campaign began in 2004 more than 3.5 million pounds of food has been collected.
