There is a whole lot more to South Bruce Peninsula than Wiarton Willie and this weekendis the proof.
The first ever Doors Open event is happening in South Bruce Peninsula both Saturday and Sunday featuring 12 stops on the tour.
Jim MacDougall, Chair South Bruce Peninsula Heritage Committee, says they tried to combine history, culture and of course the beauty of the area on the tour.
MacDougall says some of the stops include Sauble Falls site and church which is a historical property — The Corran and Spirit Rock Conservation Area which is just steeped in history of Wiarton.
Also included in the Woman’s Institute Building and the Oliphant Methodist Church.
MacDougall says also running in conjunction with this is Trails Open at Sauble SKi Trails where you can walk the cross country trails which are just coming into fall colour.
MacDougall says this event takes people off the main street and into some of the hisory and gems of South Bruce Peninsula — and gives people two days to take in the sites.
MacDougall says they both had people approach them wanting to be included in the tour and the heritage committee approached sites as well.
The tours run from 10 AM until 4 PM in the afternoon and maps are available at each stop on the tour.
