Looks like yet another avenue to locally control the development of wind turbines has been closed off.
Kincardine Council earlier this week learned from the building and planning committee that designating the community a Heritage Conservation District, isn’t going to cut it.
Town Building and Planning Manager Michele Barr says the move would not stop the large turbines from coming, since the Green Energy Act, overrides the Heritage Act and the Planning Act.
In addition Barr says a blanket designation would limit the alteration of property either through demolition or construction which wouldn’t sit well with rural property owners.
Barr says the Green Energy Act has displaced municipal authority when it comes to the development of wind turbines.
However the committee does support Heritage Kincardine reviewing possible site specific viewing corridors or site specific properties.
Council will deal with the issue at its October 6th meeting.
