Mayor Charlie Bagnato wants Walkerton to become the ‘water valley’ of the world.
On the heels of the new Waters Opportunity Act, Bagnato says now is the time to put forward his Water Cluster concept.
The idea involves a massive partnership between the private and public water sector that would be centered in Walkerton.
Bagnato says an Industry and University collaborative research centre would boost the local economy.
But he notes it would also improve water quality and advance the understanding of water technology.
Bagnato says it only makes sense that Walkerton should become the hub of the water industry — given the strides it has made from the ecoli tragedy of 2000.
Walkerton is already home to the 8.5 million dollar Clean Water Centre — so Bagnato says Brockton will have a huge advantage over the competition.
His proposed Walkerton Water Cluster would become a centre where all water based knowledge will be housed.
In May the province came out with its Waters Opportunity Act designed to foster innovative water and waste water technology in both the public and private sectors.
