A concerned Saugeen Shores citizen says it’s time to draw another line in sand when it comes to the provincial Green Energy Act.
John Mann says the province has violated its own rules when it comes to public meetings and consultations on the Green Energy Act.
Mann believes a legitimate public meeting has never been called but disguised as a one-sided open house.
He urged council to let the province know that since the Green Energy Act has been violated, until it is rectified, wind turbine plans in Saugeen Shores are not welcome.
Most councillors agreed with the intent of Mann’s presentation citing loss of control of the community.
However Councillor Victoria Serda couldn’t quite see what all the fuss was about.
She says she felt the open houses were very informative and she questions whether the town should be telling another level of government what they should be doing.
Deputy Mayor Doug Freiburger though says there are fundamental flaws in the Act.
He says he doesn’t agree when a provincial government has just walk in and take away the ability of a municipality to do what they wish when it comes to planning.
He says he’d like to see the town take the province to task on the issue in writing.
He says it would force the province to respond or ignore and either way they’ll have their answer.
John Mann, meanwhile, was happy that at least the government on the municipal level had the courtesy to listen to what he had to say.
