A proposal for a multi-million dollar wind farm on the Bruce Pensinsula near Mar, just north of Wiarton is still about 4 years down the road.
Tribute Resources spokesperson Jennifer Lewis says the company is looking at close to 100 wind turbines on approximately 10 thousand acres of land that they have taken out options on.
At roughly 3 million dollars per megawatt of electricity, the 240 megawatt proposal could be worth over 700 million dollars.
Lewis says the biggest holdup to the plan is a transmission line bottle-neck, where they can’t get the power out of the Bruce to areas where it is needed.
A second transmission line is being built from Bruce Power to Milton and should be done in late 2011.
Jennifer Lewis says Tribute Resources and it’s subsidiary “Mar Silver Birch Limited Partnership”, would still be required to put in transmission lines to hook-up with that new Bruce-to-Milton corridor.
There are a number of companies planning on building wind turbines in Grey and Bruce, which Lewis says are dependant on the new transmission line.
For now, she says they are holding onto their land options.
Tribute Resources has done testing in the Mar area, and found it is one of the best areas in Ontario for wind resources.
