If you’re a patient or about to be in one of the six hospitals of Grey Bruce Health Services, you may notice added interest in who you are.
The “Ask Don’t Tell Program” came into effect on September 7th.
The manager of central scheduling and registration, Pamela Matheson says the idea of the program is to ensure that a patient’s identity is 100 per cent accurate throughout their stay in hospital.
Matheson says basically, instead of hospital staff confirming the patient’s name, staff will be asking the patient or family member to identify themselves, probably frequently during their stay.
It’s all part of making sure they’re dealing with the person that is described on their paperwork.
Matheson says she knows some patients will lose patience with the constant asking of name or birth date but it does serve a purpose.
To that end, staff from the hospitals have put together a music video explaining the concept and they’ve uploaded it onto You Tube.
To date it’s only had a handful of views but it can be found by searching Grey Bruce Health Services on You Tube.
