Grey Bruce Health Services has received some encouraging news.
President and CEO Maureen Solecki told a board of directors meeting on Thursday night, that Cancer Care Ontario has approved funding for a third oncologist for cancer services in Owen Sound.
Currently there are two oncologists in place and last year they dealt with a staggering 11 thousand visits-plus from the region.
Solecki says it creates a huge burden on the program in Owen Sound.
She’s hopeful a third oncologist will help with the load and perhaps reduce wait times in the process.
Solecki says their recruitment drive is underway.
She says they recently hosted a visit from an oncologist who is interested in re-locating to the Grey Bruce area.
Solecki says cancer treatment continues to be an area of rapid growth in the health care that is provided to patients in Grey, Bruce and Owen Sound.
