A Paisley area farmer is seeking the NDP nomination in Huron Bruce for the next Federal election.
Grant Robertson is the former Ontario head of the National Farmers Union.
The NDP will pick their candidate at a meeting in Goderich on September 16th.
Robertson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, he was approached by several people who want a strong alternative to the Conservatives in the next vote.
He says even Liberal party supporters, asked him to run for the NDP saying they would support him, rather than their own candidate Charlie Bagnato.
According to Robertson, the disaffected Liberals feel he offers a stronger choice to the incumbent MP Ben Lobb of the Conservatives.
It’s not the first time Grant Robertson has run for office.
He ran previously for the NDP in Huron Bruce, but says the other parties out-spent him in the final weeks of the campaign and pulled ahead in the polls.
This time out, Robertson says the NDP consider the riding an important and winable riding, so they will be pumping money into the campaign.
Federal NDP leader Jack Layton will be in the area the day of the nomination meeting in Huron Bruce.
He’ll be hosting a meeting on agricultural issues in the afternoon, and meets with business leaders over the supper hour before going to the nomination session.
NDP members will meet at the Goderich high school at 7:30 PM on September 16th, to pick their candidate.
