Work to spruce up Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound has started.
The Scenic City Order of Good Cheer wanted to wait for Summerfolk to end before moving in to begin construction of their splash pad.
City Councillor Jim McManaman says the first order of business is the installation of water and sewer lines to deliver and remove water from the splash pad at a cost of about 100 thousand dollars.
That is the City’s share of the project.
McManaman — who Chair’s Owen Sound’s recreation committee — says the other 200 thousand dollar cost of the facility is being funded by the Order of Good Cheer.
He expects the construction will move forward quickly with the splash pad completed by late fall and all ready to go by next summer.
McManaman says the City is also considering various methods to get rid of that invasive common reed grass that has taken over the beach area.
He says they now are considering burning it out and applying herbicide to ensure it does not grow back.
McManaman says they also are considering trucking in same to restore the beach to its original state.
