About 400 Sri Lankan natives are participating in the annual Sri Lanka Day celebration organized by Holy Family Catholic priest Father Merv Perera.
Perera, a Sri Lankan himself, says the day is all about sharing his culture with his parishioners and the people of Hanover.
He says this year’s celebration is particularly sweet as his fellow Sri Lankan’s celebrate the end of 26 years of civil war and the great progress that has been made in their country over the last two years.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell as well as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka will also be joining the festivities.
Perera adds the special guests will certainly brighten Hanover up, as they will be wearing their traditional Sri Lankans garments.
The celebration begins with a mass at 11am at Holy Family Catholic Church.
this will be followed by a seven course traditional Sri Lankan meal at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 1pm.
The general public is invited to attend both.
The Sri Lankan meal is $7.50 a plate.
