Kincardine councillors were asked this week if they were aware that a Service Canada outlet was operating in their community.
Half the councillors admitted they did not.
In fact, such a facility has been in operation at the Kincardine Library since 2007 but few know about it.
Service Canada spokesperson Mike Elliott told council the office operates every Wednesday, from 10 AM to 3:30 PM in the library.
Elliott says he was disheartened that many councillors didn’t know of the service but that’s why he came in from Owen Sound to address council.
He says the outlet provides services for everything federal including unemployment insurance; old age pensions and social security just to name a few.
Elliott did admit though that the office does not deal in helping people obtain passports.
He says for that, residents have to go to Kitchener.
Elliott hopes his short talk to Kincardine council will help get the message out that Service Canada is open for business in the municipality.
