One of six winners of the nationwide Canada Post Community Literacy Awards is an Owen Sound resident.
Tim Nicholls Harrison was presented with the award during a ceremony at the Owen Sound Post Office.
Perhaps it’s no secret that Harrison is passionate about reading – he has been working at the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Library for 22 years.
He says literacy is extremely important to people of all ages calling it an issue of democracy as literacy is essential to access information.
Harrison does a variety of tasks at the library – including adult upgrading in computer skills, writing, math, and basic job skills.
He says he is overwhelmed to be recognized for his work in such a widespread manner being one of a handful of people in all of Canada to receive the award.
The Canada Post Literacy Awards was established in 1993.
Its aim is to discover and acknowledge the achievements of Canadians who have made an important contribution to literacy.
