It’s time again for the plows to hit the fields in Bruce County not just for harvest but to show off some skill.
The Bruce Plowing match is taking to the fields just outside of Kincardine at the Farm of Irwin Slade today.
Organizer Cheryl Leifso says the rain of the last 24 hours are just what the match needed to make the fields in prime condition for all the events.
Leifso says this years match has most of the popular event as in years gone by including horse plowing – antique plowing and the Queen of the Furrow competition and crowning.
Leifso says one event that is new this year that is sure to be a crowd pleaser is reverse plowing.
One thing that Leifso notes that the farming community is resilient – and it stands strong through every ebb and flow of the economy.
Leifso says they never have a problem with attendance and they see everyone from tourists to “hardcore” farmers — as well as the youth involved in 4-H.
Leifso says the events all start at 10 AM with a bbq beef lunch served at noon featuring Bruce Country Beef – Gay Lea milk products and more.
The slade farm is located just north of Kincardine on the 7th concession – just off of Highway 21.
The only event that is to be paid for is the lunch – which is $12 per person.
