Owners of the Scone Mill and Dam are fighting for disaster relief funds.
A torrential downpour on August 14th washed out the front right corner of the mill building causing between 175 thousand and 250 thousand dollars damage.
Owner Dan Dansereau says they’re on a flood plain so insurance is not a possibility.
Instead, Dansereau says they’re applying under the Ontario Disaster Relief Program.
In their submission, Dansereau included a letter to newly appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rick Bartolucci.
It could take up to six months before the Ministry responds, but Dansereau hopes Bartolucci expedites their submission as one of the first things he does at his new post.
There’s have also a petition with well over a thousand signatures in their submission.
Under the Disaster Relief Assistance Program — the Province contributes up to $2 dollars for every dollar raised locally.
There are donation jars throughout Chesley and an account has been set up at the Chesley CIBC branch for donations.
Dansereau says they have managed to raise close to three thousand dollars locally so far.
