Grey Bruce Health Services has closed the inpatient unit at the Southampton Hospital.
There is a MRSA outbreak and five patients at Saugeen Memorial Hospital have tested positive for the bacteria but they are not sick.
GBHS Public Relations Officer Jim Merriam tells Bayshore Broadcasting News this is a precautionary measure.
Merriam says the emergency department is not affected by the closure.
He says any patients that require admission will be sent to other hosptial’s in Grey Bruce.
There are also visitor restrictions at the Southampton hospital — including strict hand washing protocols.
Merriam says only one visitor is allowed per patient — and no children under 10 and no pets will be allowed.
The in-patient unit will remain closed until two consecutive swabs show the bacteria is gone.
But Merriam says they have to wait 72 hours before each swab so it will be after Labour Day before the in-patient unit is open again.
MRSA is spread from one person to another by contact — usually on the hands of visitors or caregivers.
