Most Ontario students continue to show improvement in provincewide standardized testing in reading, writing and math but in some cases progress is slow.
Overall results released today by the Education Quality and Accountability Office show no noticeable gain in reading ability by Grade 3’s over the past five years.
Kids in Grades 3 and 6 did much better in writing while the reading skill of Grade 6s was also much improved.
Grade 3’s did better in math but the success rate in Grade 6 stayed the same.
Grade 9 math was where students have really shone since 2004 with a 5 per cent improvement in the applied program and 11 per-cent in academic math.
Across the province, 64 per-cent of Grade 3 and 6 students are making the grade — that’s a 14 per-cent jump from when standardized testing was introduced in the 2002-03 school year.
Individual school boards will release their own EQAO results on September 15th.
