Results of a survey of small business in Owen Sound shows a general dissatisfaction with local government and the property tax level.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business talked with 179 business owners in Owen Sound between July of 2009 and July of this year.
Vice President Satinder Chera tells Bayshore Broadcasting News 71 per cent of those surveyed feel their business property taxes are too high.
In the Scenic City, business property taxes are 2.7 times higher than residential tax rates.
They also feel the overall awareness of the small business sector is poor at 66 per cent.
Business leaders also complain that the control of government wage levels and the value for money of public services are both low in Owen Sound.
Chera admits that some centres in the survey were actually rated lower than Owen Sound council, such as Windsor and London.
He says the goal of the survey was to get feedback from business owners before the municipal election in October.
Chera says there has been no response from Owen Sound city hall to the feedback from downtown business.
