The South Bruce Grey Health Centre has begun the practice of reporting Surgical Safety Check List (SSCL) compliance rates.
The Perioperative Manager for SBGHC Mary Rae says the reporting started on July 30th.
Rae says the SSCL is a patient safety communication tool used by the operating room team to ensure that everyone is familiar with the surgical case before them.
Rae says there haven’t been any problems at SBGHC and most of the safety check list was always in force.
This program merely increases the transparency of the job that’s being done by reporting publicly on the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care’s website at www.ontario.ca/patientsafety
Rae says their first quarter results are just over 85 per cent comliance at Kincardine Hospital and just uner 96 per cent at the Walkerton site.
The sites in Durham and Chesley do not have operating rooms.
Rae admits there is a learning curve but she expects the compliance rates for next quarter to be even higher.
