One of the biggest musical events in Grey Bruce is here.
The 35th annual Summerfolk music and craft festival kicks off tonight at Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound.
This year more than 50 musical acts will grace the Summerfolk stage and according to Artistic Director Richard Knechtel every one will get the audience taping their toes to their music.
He says this year’s lineup is from all four corners of the globe from Nagmar, a Siberian-Mongolian Folk Rock group to Baskery Punkabilly group composed of Three Swedish Sisters.
Knechtel says there also will be a wide variety of traditional folk music along with celtic performers and even a group from South America that specializes in the Music of the Andes.
Once again, there will be a large cullinary and craft aspect to Summerfolk with over 40 artisans exhibiting their talents in the craft area, more than a dozen food booths to provide a wide variety of local food.
Georgian Bay Folk Society President Brenda Scott says this year, local chefs also will be part of summer folk demonstrating the preparation of cooking of local food.
Knechtel says one of the reasons for the success of Summerfolk is the quality of the sound delivered at the main stage and five side stages.
He says they import a sound expert from Victoria, Steve Dark to look after the over all sound quality to ensure every performance sounds like you are setting in front of a massive stereo system.
The gates open up Friday afternoon and the first act takes to the stage at 6 PM.
About 20 thousand people are expected to attend Summerfolk weekend.
