Police are using several marine incidents this week to talk about water safety tips.
Just this week — there have been cases involving 12 people on the waters of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
Two people have died — a 10 year old boy from Bosnia and a 16 year old girl from France.
OPP Constables Martin Hachey and Trevor McKean were involved in the rescues of ten people in different circumstances on Monday because of high waves caused when the wind picked up.
Constable McKean says it’s important to always check the marine forecast before you go out on any type of water craft.
He says you should also let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back so if you don’t arrive, police have a starting point in their search.
Constable Hachey adds its the law to have a personal flotation device with you, but he recommends having it on right away.
He notes it’s just too difficult to get one on if you’re battling five or six foot waves.
