The Women’s Shelter of Bruce Grey needs your help to recoup the costs of ridding the shelter from bed bugs.
Program coordinator Janice Jackson says so far the cleanup has cost the shelter approximately 10 thousand dollars.
And Jackson says the costs are still mounting.
The situation hit the shelter out of left field and their contingency is too small to cover it, so they are asking for your continued financial help.
As for the state of the shelter right now, Jackson says they are still re-routing women from their location because they’re still putting the shelter back together.
She does stress the fact they’re re-routing and not turning women away.
Although bed bugs were only found in one room of the shelter, staff and volunteer’s had to remove almost everything inside to treat it properly.
Jackson says new measures are now in place in the hopes they never have to deal with bed bugs again — including new locker storage for women’s belongings.
