Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners claims it was a very positive meeting with Ontario’s Infrastructure minister Brad Duguid .
Lovell Stanners and a number of city representatives talked at length Monday, with the minister about a possible extension to funding for the new Regional rec centre in Owen Sound.
Although nothing was given in writing, the Mayor came away with the feeling that major projects that faced unavoidable delays, like the Owen Sound one, would be given some leeway.
Mayor Lovell Stanners says Premier Dalton McGuinty also repeated his stance to the AMO delegates in Windsor yesterday (Mon), that Ottawa should not walk away from major projects just because of the March 31st deadline.
The Mayor says they will continue to work thru MP Larry Miller to try to get a meeting with the Federal Infrastructure Minister to see if the Conservative government in Ottawa will also soften its stance on the deadline.
