While for a short period of time there was a tornado warning posted on Saturday night — and some us us barely saw a shower — in Chelsey, it was a different story.
The Manager of Flood Warning and Land of the Saugeen Conservation Authority, Dave Pybus, says water gauges in the Chesley area noted 8 inches of water in three hours falling on Saturday night.
The water caused extensive damage to the Scone Mill Dam in Scone.
Pybus says the Authority has never seen damage to that magnitude at this time of year — especially in the Chesley area.
But Pybus says the damage to the Dam was very localized – in fact that is the only main damage reported from Saturday night’s storm other than some field flooding.
Pybus says these types of “cell” storms are very difficult to track as they don’t show up on radar and are very localized.
While the Scone Mill dam is a privately owned dam — it will be up to the owners to repair the damage — which Pybus says is extensive.
Pybus says there were many residents out on Sunday at the site viewing the damage.
