A decision to get rid of municipal representation at the Hanover and District Hospital Board is still receiving a chilly reception from the town.
But the Hanover and District Hospital Board is extending an olive branch to Hanover Councillors.
Hospital Board Chair Alan Fisher has volunteered to visit council on a regular basis to provide hospital board updates and address councillor questions and concerns.
He believes his council updates will help close the gap left from the elimination of the municipal representative seat on the Hospital Board.
Fisher defends the Boards decision saying the Hospital is changing with the times and is now focusing on creating a skills based hospital board.
Councillor Bob White however cautions that sometimes people change for the sake of changing.
He calls the move disappointing — noting that the town and the Hospital worked well in the past together on projects such as the new medical clinic.
Like it or not, Mayor Kathi Maskell says council will have to adjust, adding that she is pleased Fisher will be making regular visits to council.
In June Hanover, Brockton and West Grey lost their municipal representation on the Hanover and District Hospital Board.
It’s part of a growing trend where local hospitals are moving towards a skills based board drawing from the expertise of those in the community.
The controversial move sparked opposition from all three local councils — Hanover, West Grey and Brockton.
