Residents are encouraged to reduce electricity consumption.
But experts urge the reductions should be something to strive for right through the summer.
Allison Wallis with GreenSaver says there are a number of ways, both big and small, that anyone can do to save money and energy.
Air Conditioners are the top energy suckers says the Independent Electricity System Operator but with the hot humid weather not yet out of our forecast they offer us some eco-friendly, cost-effective ways to beat the heat.
Use fans to encourage air flow.
Use smaller appliances that will generate less heat.
Keep windows and curtains closed during the day and open at night.
Close your fireplace damper.
Shade south-facing windows.
Use energy-efficient LED lights.
Make sure your home is properly insulated.
Install a programmable thermostat.
Run dishwashers and washing machines in the evening.
And if you do have an air conditioner make sure it’s Energy Star qualified.
